The state Health Department has recovered an emergency preparedness trailer stolen more than two weeks ago.

An Albuquerque resident alerted police that the 40-foot trailer - which disappeared from a parking lot at Central New Mexico Community College around April 1 - was parked in a vacant lot on the city's north side.

Health officials said Tuesday almost all the contents were recovered, including personal protective equipment and quarter-sized samples of radioactive plutonium, cesium and strontium.

A Health Department spokeswoman said the missing materials were "really minor stuff," such as straps for securing items and plastic bags.

The Health Department contracts with the community college's work force training center to conduct hands-on training with first responders from around the state on how to respond to hazardous or radioactive emergencies.
