We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. The Canadian wildfire smoke and air pollution earlier this month was insane, all of us here at CRAFT felt it across the state. We're sending up prayers for everyone who couldn't shelter from the smoke, including our human, animal, and plant relations. This summer continues to be a hot one, so please take care of yourselves!

Fermi 2: Nuclear Dumpster Fire
In last month's reporting, we updated you about Fermi's failure to come back online to full power after refueling in May, as well as the following fire that broke out in the facility. The plant dropped to 0% power output and has taken two months to finally be restored to 100%. Meanwhile, the sun has continued to shine on the solar panels, the wind has continued to blow the windmills, and there will never be a need to evacuate a 50 mile radius danger zone around a broken panel or mill. Nor do such devices dump millions of gallons of toxic wastewater into Lake Erie DAILY. MEJC Condemns Line 5 Approval
Backpedaling on explicit public statements she made opposing Enbridge and their Line 5 pipeline, Governor Whitmer issues permit approvals for the project to go forward. The Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition (MEJC) has released a scathing public statement about this approval:
MEJC condemns the approvals of the Enbridge Line 5 tunnel permits by Governor Whitmer’s Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). These decisions are a direct betrayal of environmental justice communities, tribal treaty rights, and 70,000 public comments.
Both departments have conceded the project will have “significant impacts” - including the disruption and removal of tribal burial mounds on both sides of the Straits of Michigan, destruction of critical wetlands, and direct harm to threatened species. Rather than stopping a disaster before it happens, state regulators are giving a green light to a profit-hungry multi-billion-dollar Canadian fossil fuel corporation that is already contributing to the climate crisis.

Solstice 2 Solstice Motion

The Summer Solstice is a key time of the year across the world with different peoples holding different beliefs about the day including scientific, cultural and religious. It is a significant moment here on earth for sure. CRAFT believes cycles are a part of the natural world that we all belong to and to move with this world is something we seek.
From the Solstice time in 2025 to 2026 we had quite the good run and while some of you keep up with the monthly newsletter and some of you through social media, those things happen throughout the year and sometimes things don’t get shared. As a small grassroots group CRAFT is always up to something. Tabling at powwows and events, putting on events or attending and speaking at events requires tons of planning, coordination and resources, which we also work to have and do. Sometimes so much is lined up that multiple things are happening at the same time or back-to-back that we get caught up and don’t get to share everything back to the public.
This 2026 Summer Solstice time was a slowing down moment for us after a busy cycle since Solstice 2025. Stretched thin and tested at times, the monthly newsletter came out, events happened and we walked the talk. We put together a little timeline of events in the hopes it will help paint a picture through the group's eyes.
