As seen on LOCAL 10 NEWS (WPLG) Don't Trash Our Treasure: Is Turkey Point safe in this age of climate change?
IN THE NEWS: TURKEY POINT CAMPAIGN
|
Dear Eric,
Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant was approved to operate until the 2050s—a total of 80 years—without fully analyzing serious risks like groundwater contamination, rising temperatures, stronger hurricanes, and increasing flooding. Is Miami's aging nuclear facility ready for the future?
We at Miami Waterkeeper don't think so. That's why we've officially appealed this license extension to ensure that FPL is fully considering—and planning for—these risks. We've been talking to WPLG Local 10 News Miami and Emmy-award winning journalist Louis Aguirre.
What's at stake? Watch the news segments below.

"Miami Waterkeeper is on the front lines of the fight to hold FPL accountable in ensuring that their Turkey Point nuclear reactors are prepared for future climate risks and that our drinking water supply is not being contaminated," says CEO and Waterkeeper, Dr. Rachel Silverstein. "This is an issue that has national significance, and it's in our backyard. We've had unprecedented victories on this issue already, but we can't stop now. Our future is at stake."
